It seems like everyday we hear of another artist that is putting out a country album.  It's not just country stars anymore, but now it's pop, rock, and soft rock stars that are jumping on the country music bandwagon. The most recent news is that former "Air Supply" frontman Russell_Hitchcock  is releasing a 2 disc CD package called, " Russell Hitchcock - Tennessee: The Nashville Sessions."  Look for that CD in stores on May 10th.

"I am more than pleased with this project. This is not a departure for me, I simply stepped outside the Air Supply box to dip a toe into other waters, an ocean of music that I've admired from afar."

He's not the only one though trying to get a piece of the country pie:

  • Aaron Lewis , formerly of the rock group "Staind" released an album earlier this year that debuted at #1 on the national charts.
  • Tommy Shaw, formerly of the rock group "Styx" released his very first bluegrass album recently.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow signed a $900,000 deal with Atlantic Records after her movie "Country Strong" which she starred in with Tim McGraw
  • Even Lady Gaga is getting in on the act by putting a country spin on her hit, "Born This Way."

Darius Rucker was once a crossover star but is becoming a household country name.  Kid Rock who was once a hardcore rocker has been on some pretty big country tours too.  So what do you think?  Do you like it when stars from other genres come out with a country album?  Or are they just trying to get a piece of the pie?
