Garth Brooks was just awarded 1 million dollars in damages today in a lawsuit against a hospital in his hometown of Yukon, Oklahoma. Garth had brought a breach of contract lawsuit against Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon because he had donated $500,000 to the hospital with the agreement that they would build a women's center and name it after Garth's mom, Colleen Brooks who died of cancer in 1999. Brooks said he thought the he and the hospital had a solid agreement in 2005, but later found out the money went for other construction projects. Officials at the hospital claimed the money was donated anonymously and could be used for anything. During testimony at the court proceeding, Garth broke down and wept openly when discussing the donation and how much he loved his mother. The jury said they wanted to make a statement that this would never happen to anyone again. Read more about this story here.
