If you are a native Western New Yorker who enjoys beer, then most likely you have tried 12 Horse Ale. The Genesee Brewing company first made the iconic brand in 1933 and it continued to be one of their main products until it was discontinued in 1997. It was brought back briefly in 2003, but flagging sales caused its demise. Now it looks like Genesee will be once again producing the legendary 12 Horse Ale. The new re-launch of 12 Horse Ale is happening today at 11am at the brewery in Rochester.

I remember drinking 12 Horse Ale back in the 70's when I was a new beer drinker. For some reason Genesee Cream Ale seemed to be more popular with my circle of friends. For some reason, we just gravitated towards the Genny "Screamers" rather than 12 Horse Ale. It's very obvious that the Genesee Brewing Company is striving to capture the nostalgia of Genesee beer drinkers from long ago. The current Genesee beer can is a direct throwback to their late 60's/early 70's design. I am very glad that the brewer is bringing back the glory days of its past.  I give them credit for doing this. We need to keep our Western New York heritage alive. Buying local and regionally made products is a great way to go.

Raise your glass and have a cold one for the Genesee Brewing company. http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=126002354171509
