It's been one helluva year for the King of Country! George Strait celebrated his 61st birthday in May and notched his 60th No. 1 single. He has also enjoyed a completely sold out run for his two-year Cowboy Rides Away Tour -- which is his official goodbye from active touring -- but not from actively performing or making music. Now, Strait will be honored with the ASCAP Founders Award this November.

It's the most prestigious honor that the performing rights society grants to songwriters and composers who've made pioneering and significant contributions to music. Previous country stars to nab this honor include Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson.

Strait will be feted on Monday, Nov. 4 at the new Music City Center in Nashville at the 51st Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards. It's an invite-only, black-tie event that celebrates songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most-performed country songs between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

"George Strait is a living legend whose revitalization of classic country music defined a generation of country singers and continues to inspire songwriters today," said ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams. "He has topped the charts more often than any country artist in history, captivating millions while remaining true to his style and love of tradition. 'King' George is a genuine musical pioneer whose influence on country music is immeasurable, and we are honored to recognize his extraordinary career with the ASCAP Founders Award."

Congrats to the King!
