I am a huge fan of the old-school honky-tonk singers, and there are few better than Webb Pierce.

Sure, it is not the "in your face" rocking country that many are accustomed to today. However, much like today's music, Webb's sound was the highlight of his time.

During the '40s, '50s and '60s, "mainstream" country music had the traditional twang that many use as a stereotype when referring to country music. It is this sound that I can't get enough of. You know when Webb was recording his hit songs, he was feeling the pain and emotion of the song word for word. He put himself within the song. He lived the music, and it made him that much better.Listening to his stuff, I try to put myself in to the stories as well.

Webb Pierce would have celebrated his 92nd birthday today. He passed at the age of 70 in 1991. However, the great songs that he made so famous still live on. Here are just a few of my favorites that I still love playing on Wide Open Country on Saturdays.
