It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero from Grand Island, NY is Jacob Wiesnet!

Sgt Jacob M Wiesnet served in the United States Army from 2005-2011.  He went to FT Jackson SC for basic training and Aberdeen Proving Grounds for Advanced Individual Training for 45K Armament Technician

 

Jacob was deployed to Iraq from ’05 to ‘07 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1st Armored Division.  While there, he was awarded the Naval Unit Commendation medal by the commanding general of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force for our combined effort in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Ramadi.

 

He then was deployed again to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2008 to 2010 with 172nd Infantry Brigade as a gun truck team leader for Base defense operations.
