I gave up trying to predict the next big thing a few years ago. The talent pool in country music these days is deep and trying to forecast who will and who won't click with today's audience is almost impossible. What I do know for certain is what I like and when I hear something/someone that really catches my ear, I like to pass that along.

I spoke to Gunnar Nyblad from Gunnar and The Grizzly Boys on Monday. This group is one of those that I had to share.

My Chat With Gunnar Nyblad...

The first time I heard Gunnar and The Grizzly Boys was their song "Standard American" was shared with me through a friend. It's a song that describes a certain type of person. A passionate, tried and true American patriot that works hard and yet isn't afraid to play hard at the end of the week. The kind of person that cares about his family and puts their needs above all else. The kind of guy that can fix anything and will go out of his way to help a friend, isn't afraid to put in extra hours if he has to in order to get a job done. The work horse that keeps this country on it's feet when the world around constantly knocks him and his beliefs down. These are my kind of people and the song celebrates them.

True, these themes are really nothing new and basically are what I love about country music. What has me interested in Gunnar and The Grizzly Boys is that they appear to be real. They're a group of guys that met in college in Michigan  that love to play music together. As I mentioned in our interview, I haven't seen a group appear to have as much fun as this group does entertaining and playing. They are the kind of band you would find practicing in a local barn or garage or, as Gunnar pointed out, a basement.

Their latest project released this week called "Pedal To The Floor." It's a song that they've had for sometime but is now being released on a major national scale. Technically speaking, this song is predicted to be their "breakout tune."

Combine their energy and talent with their blue collar roots, these guys have something special.Based on what I have see in videos of live shows and music videos (most that were recorded on an amateur camera) the group is in tune with today's younger demographic that has latched on to country music and simple way of life. As long as they stay true to that formula, these guys have a chance at something big.
