It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero is from Buffalo, NY.  It’s United States Navy Reserves Commander Haji Ibn Akmal Shareef!

Commander Shareef enlisted in November 1995.  He attended Aviation Electronic Technician school in Millington and proceeded to graduating as an AT(I) Honor Grad resulting in appointment as a Base Master at Arms.  He earned his commission in May of 2001 through the NROTC as a result of the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program from Jacksonville University. He has several tours which include Qatar, Leading 47 separate Personnel recovery efforts, Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf detachments, as well as Japan and many other stateside and overseas duty stations. In response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, he was sent on a quick detachment to assist in the recovery efforts.
