Hamburg, Batavia and Niagara Falls Take Wednesday’s Wind Gust Title

Wednesday March 8, 2017 will be remembered as one of the windiest days Western New York has seen. As sunny and clear as the skies were, it was hard to imagine the damage that was happening because of the hurricane force winds that blew in and out of the area over a 12 hour period.

The National Weather Service was clear in their prediction and warnings that property may be damaged and electricity and power may be lost for some time. As of Thursday morning, thousands are still without power and officials are saying it could be a day or so before it is completed restored.

Numerous schools in the area from East Aurora to Attica have been closed because of wind related issues.

So who had the highest gusts? What were the final numbers on peak speeds? The Tweet from The National Weather Service revealed some shocking numbers.

There are indications that we could move in to a colder air pattern that MAY bring some lake effect snow in to the area. Spring is less than two weeks away and it looks like Mother Nature wants us to remember that we are still in Buffalo and snow should always be on our minds until April or May.
