It's a long-time annual tradition here in Western New York and it renews this weekend.  It's high school football rivalry weekend and it gets underway Friday night at 6 pm with the 106th edition of the TNT Classic, one of the longest running football rivalries in the country.

Local historians say the TNT rivalry officially began in 1906, but the 1911 game ended the tradition for several years after what is known as the "greased pants" game where North Tonawanda players were accused of applying a greasy substance to their pants to avoid being tackled.

The rivalry was renewed in 1916 and the annual classic has been played every year since 1919.

Here's the weekend rivalry schedule:

  • Tonawanda at North Tonawanda, Friday 6:00 pm
  • Cheektowaga at Maryvale, Friday 7:00 pm
  • West Seneca East at West Seneca West, Friday 7:00 pm
  • Medina at Albion, Friday 7:00 pm
