Did the kid even do anything wrong?

A high school track team from Texas was disqualified for using the "God gesture" following their victory in a race they won over this weekend. They qualified for the state championships and will have to forfeit the opportunity. There will not be another chance to do so.

The team in the University Interscholastic League had won a qualifying race in the 4 x 100-meter race when member Derrick Hayes pointed to the sky in a gesture of gratitude towards God.

"Officials deemed the gesture an act of 'excessive celebration' and disqualified the team’s victory."

Some of the community and the son's father say that the disqualification is religious discrimination.

What really are they trying to prove by disqualifying them? He pointed to God after winning a race. I don't see the big deal. He wasn't pushing religion on anyone -- he was acknowledging God after winning a race.
