‘Highwaymen’ Celebrates 28 Years At #1 [VIDEO]

It was August 17, 1985 that the song "Highwayman" peaked at #1 on the country music chart.

There are so many great things about this legendary song. First is the combination of artists know as "The Highwaymen": Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson are/were all amazing songwriters and singers.

The song had a much different vibe than most of the other songs out at the time. The beat, the melody and the lyrics all combine for one of the best all time songs.

I often try to imagine if there will ever be a combination like this one again. Don't get me wrong, there are some very talented and successful stars on today's country radio. However, these four men were the pioneers and standard for today's country stars.
