I watched the news report about the daredevil that did a free fall from 24 miles above the earth. Felix Baumgartner was successful in his attempt to break to break the speed of sound on his own. It got me thinking about just how far up he had to travel to get to that speed.If you were to try to fall at a speed of 833 mph, or Mach 1.24, you would have to fall from a distance of 24 miles up. It took him a long time to even get to that height before he could attempt his "sky dive." If you were to drive from downtown Buffalo how far would that be?? Here is an example...
