While construction of the solar panel manufacturing plant known as Solar City continues at River Bend off of South Park Avenue in Buffalo, there comes word there is a huge offer on the table to buy it.  The owner of Tesla Motors has made a $2.6-billion dollar bid to take ownership and manufacturing rights.

Solar City is envisioned as the biggest solar panel factory in North America. The plan is for the facility to turn out 10-thousand solar panels a day. The Buffalo plant would use technology that would manufacture the most solar-efficient panels available anywhere in the world.

Now along comes Elon Musk who owns Tesla Motors, the Fremont, California-based company that produces the all-electric Teslas. Musk not only has been an innovator in the development of electric cars and trains, he's been working on rockets whose boosters land on floating platforms rather than just falling into the ocean.

Musk is committed to energy-efficient products and he sees Solar City fitting into his vision. To have that kind of financing and innovative mindset here in Buffalo is an incredible win for Western New York.
