For the second time this week in Western New York, this scary scam has been attempted. According to the Lancaster police:

Over the weekend, one of our detectives took a call on Church Street in the Village of Lancaster. A resident there reported that last Wednesday, a male was taking photos of the resident's satellite dish and connections on the exterior of his house. The man told the complainant that he then needed to check the ground wire in the basement. The resident told the detective that he did let the man inside his home to photograph the ground wire, but never let the man out of his sight. After the man left, the resident contacted the satellite company, who told him that they did not dispatch anyone to his house, and that if they did they would be in uniform and have company identification. The subject in this incident was not wearing a uniform or displaying any type of identification.

The subject in this incident was described as a well dressed white male. The complainant could offer no further description or any vehicle information.
Residents are reminded that, for their own safety and security, they should verify the identity of any workers or solicitors before allowing them inside their homes. If you cannot verify the identity of someone requesting to enter your home, or observe any suspicious activity involving persons going to door to door or walking around outside your residence, contact Lancaster Police IMMEDIATELY at (716) 683-2800 or dial 911 for an emergency.
