When we walked into the arena for the CMA Awards, there were plastic candles taped to each chair--but, no directions making everyone assume we would have to use them during a memorable, emotional performance.

With a couple of minutes before Carrie Underwood was to sing 'Soft and Tenderly' the announcer came over to tell everyone in the arena to turn on their candles, "hold them like a reverend" and do not speak or cheer', even after she was done.

You could hear it on TV Carrie Underwood break down during the performance, but she was sobbing pretty good during the performance. The CMA's did a fantastic job with the touching tribute.
