It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero originally from Watertown, NY.  From the United States Coast Guard, it’s Chief Yeoman Irene K. Mais!

Chief Yeoman Irene K. Mais was born in Watertown, New York.  She entered the Coast Guard in January 2002 and attended Basic Training in Cape May, NJ.  Upon graduation, her first duty assignment was Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, FL.  Her subsequent assignments were Yeoman “A” School at Training Center Petaluma, CA; Human Resources Services and Information Center Topeka, KS; Group Woods Hole, MA; Integrated Support Command Portsmouth, VA; Sector New York, NY; Maritime Force Protection Unit Kings Bay, GA.  Chief Mais reported to Coast Guard Sector Buffalo NY as part of the Reserve Force Readiness Staff in June 2016.

YNC Mais’ personal awards include five Coast Guard Achievement Medals, three Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbons, four Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals, and various other service awards.  Chief Mais is a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport, NY earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and an Associate of Science at SUNY Jefferson, NY.

YNC Mais is married to Christopher D. Mais, MK1 also serving on active duty in the Coast Guard at Station Buffalo, NY.
