Jake Owen may be a country singer by day, but until injuring his shoulder in a wakeboarding accident in college, he had dreams of being a professional golfer. In February, Owen's passion for golf and philanthropic efforts will be honored with an Arnie Award as part of Golf Digest’s Golfers Who Give Back event at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Owen is receiving his Arnie Award in the wake of his 10th annual benefit concert in his hometown of Vero Beach, Fla., to raise funds for the Jake Owen Foundation, which supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and local children's charities in and around the Vero Beach area. To date, the foundation has raised $1.25 million for its causes.

"The greatest part for all of us, golfers and entertainers, is being able to help one another,” Owen tells Golf Digest, which features Owen in the December issue of their magazine, along with 2017's other Arnie Award recipients, former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and pro golfer Phil Mickelson. "[But] I feel like I've been able to touch more people with a guitar and a song than I would have with a putter or a driver.”

Owen, Manning and Mickelson will receive their Arnie Awards on Feb. 7. To be surrounded by iconic athletes is something that the "What We Ain't Got" singer does not take for granted.

“Receiving this award with Arnold Palmer’s name on it and what it represents means everything to me ... [and] to receive an Arnie the same year as Peyton and Phil Mickelson, who I respect so much, is simply mind blowing," saws Owen in an official press release, adding that the only person who may be more excited than him is his father: "I’m extremely grateful. I will probably cry when they present it to me, and so will my Dad, who taught me how to play golf when I was just a little kid.”

Back in the music world, Owen is currently promoting "If He Ain’t Gonna Love You," which is the the second single from his most recent studio album, American Love.
