‘Burnin’ It Down,’ the sexy new track from Jason Aldean’s next album, is sewn from familiar seeds but cultivated beneath a different kind of sunshine. The song pushes the singer further into hip-hop and R&B than ever before but still fits neatly within the brand he’s created over the last decade.

Florida Georgia Line’s influence on the songwriting is obvious, but so is Rodney Clawson’s. Clawson helped write ‘Take a Little Ride,’ and the two songs’ choruses follow a similar melody. Sonically there aren’t many other similarities between the tracks as Aldean and producer Michael Knox lean heavily on electric beats and loops to fill their canvas.

We’re just hanging around / Burnin' it down / Sippin' on some cold Jack Daniel's / Jammin' to some old Alabama with you, baby / Laying right here naked in my bed,” Aldean sings. The words could be the most intentionally sexy thing he’s ever said, although many (female) fans will argue that the vast majority of his songs drip with romance and sex appeal.

“I'm just doing my thing / You love it when I sing / Say it makes you feel like an angel / We about to get a little tangled up right about now / So girl let's keep burnin' it down.”

Lyrically ‘Burnin’ It Down’ is rock-solid. Fans who embrace the sonic landscape surrounding his vocals will do right to add this to their Friday night playlist. Lyrics like “You slip your finger through the tear in my t-shirt / You stirrin' up dirty in the back of my mind” and “Let's hit the switch and let our shadows dance / And light it up like it's our last chance” are particularly effective.

I wanna rock it all night / Baby girl, will you rock it out with me / I wanna crawl through the dark / Just to feel your heartbeat against me,” Aldean sings at the bridge.

Ultimately the song’s success will depend on how fans react to the new production, which is miles away from his rock roots and power ballad past.

Why Fans Will Love It: Lyrically the song is white hot.

Key Lyrics: “I'm just doing my thing / You love it when I sing / Say it makes you feel like an angel / We about to get a little tangled up right about now / So girl let's keep burnin' it down”

Did You Know?: Michael Knox has produced every one of Aldean's albums.
