Yesterday’s Sprint Cup race at Dover started out badly with 13 cars including defending Cup champion Tony Stewart involved in a wreck on just the ninth lap. It ended the day of 6 drivers early.

After that it was Jimmie Johnson’s day to shine on a cloudy day. Johnson led 289 of the 400 laps for his seventh victory at the one-mile track tying Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for most career victories at the Monster Mile.  Johnson won the All-Star race two weeks ago, but this was his first win in a points race this season.

To give you an idea of how dominant Johnson is at Dover – Johnson has won 33 percent of the races he’s started there and led the most laps nine times including the last seven in a row.

Kevin Harvick finished second two and a half seconds back.

Dale Earnhardt, Junior ran up front most of the day and came in fourth for this fifth Top-five finish of the season.

Points leader Greg Biffle came in 11th and now his points lead drops to just one point over second place Matt Kenseth.

Jeff Gordon appeared to have the best car on the track, but a loose wheel forced him to pit and put him too far back to challenge for the win. Gordon rallied to finish 13th.

The first of two stops at Pocono is up next on the schedule.
