It came down to a green, white, checkered finish and at the end it was Joey Logano winning his first Daytona 500.  Logano ran up front almost the entire day, led 31 laps including the last one and it was not only his first win, but his first Top 5 finish in the 500.  It's Logano's ninth career victory.

Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson completed the Top 5.

On the final lap, a crash on the back stretch swallowed up eight cars and brought a yellow flag with Logano in the lead to end the race.  One of the cars involved in that last lap crash was Jeff Gordon after he started from the pole and led a race high 87 laps.  In his final Daytona 500, Gordon wound up 33rd.

The race was missing both Busch brothers for very different reasons.  Kurt Busch was suspended by NASCAR under suspicion of domestic violence.  Kyle Busch was seriously injured in the Xfinity Series race the day before and suffered a fractured leg and foot in a crash into the inside wall of the back stretch.  Regan Smith took over for Kurt Busch in the Number 41 Chevy and finished 17th.  Matt Craton took over for Kyle Busch in the Number 18 Toyota and came in 19th.

Next up on the schedule is Atlanta next Sunday.
