One race, two drivers – the Sprint Cup championship comes down to Homestead – Miami Speedway next Sunday with Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart just 3 points apart entering the final race.

Kasey Kahne broke an 81-race winless streak by taking the checkered flag yesterday at Phoenix with Edwards coming in second and Stewart taking third.

Stewart led a race-high 160 of the 312 laps but had to pit for gas with 18 laps left.  It forced him to battle his way to the front again and passed Jeff Burton with one lap to go to finish right behind Edwards but ran out of time.  For Stewart it’s his 8th top-five finish in this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup.

So with Edwards finishing one spot ahead of Stewart and Stewart leading the most laps, the point differential
remains the same as before yesterday’s race – just three points.

Jeff Burton came in fourth with Ryan Newman completing the top five.

All of the other drivers in the Chase are now officially out of the competition.
