Kevin Harvick entered Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway dead last in the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings, but with his victory he nailed down a slot in the Round of 8 following next week's race at Talladega.

Harvick pulled away on a late restart and beat Carl Edwards to the line by better than a second for his second career win at Kansas.  It's the fourth victory of the season for Harvick and 35th of his career.

For Edwards it's the second time he's had to settle for a second-place finish at the track he calls his home track.  And again it was painful because he ran up front for long stretches.

Joey Logano finished third with Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch completing the Top 5.  Pole winner Matt Kenseth came in eighth.

So after eight Chase races the standings look like this;

  • Jimmie Johnson
  • Kevin Harvick
  • Matt Kenseth
  • Kyle Busch
  • Carl Edwards
  • Kurt Busch
  • Martin Truex, Jr.
  • Joey Logano
  • Austin Dillon
  • Denny Hamlin
  • Brad Keselowski
  • Chase Elliott

Logano and Dillon are tied for eighth place.  For the drivers below them, next week's race at Talladega is their final chance to earn the right to advance for championship consideration.
