Two drivers looking for their first career Sprint Cup victory battled to reach their goal in Sunday's race at Michigan Speedway.  Chase Elliott had a big lead until a caution for debris on the track set up the final restart with nine laps left.  But on the restart Kyle Larson got a solid push from Brad Keselowski giving him just enough of an edge to take the lead and held off Elliott the rest of the way to give Larson his first victory and Chip Ganassi Racing its first win in 99 races.

After a burnout, Larson took the checkered flag from the flag man and jumped into the arms of one of his crewmembers.  Later he dedicated his win to Bryan Clauson, his close friend who was killed in a midget car race August 6th in Kansas.

Elliott was forced to settle for second place.  Brad Keselowski came in third with Ryan Blaney and Kevin Harvick completing the Top 5.

Even though he didn't win, Elliott's stands 11th in the point standings, highest of any driver without a victory.  He stands 27 points ahead of Ryan Newman with two more races left before heading into the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Larson's victory made it a sweep for first-time winners over the weekend.  Brett Moffitt won the Truck Series race at Michigan while Michael McDowell won the Xfinity race at Elkhart, Wisconsin.

The iconic Darlington Raceway is up next on the schedule.
