Now that the Blizzard of 2014 has passed and it’s starting to warm up outside, don’t just sit inside anymore! Get out and enjoy these events around town!

Get some laughter in your life this weekend at the Helium Comedy Club on Mississippi Street in Buffalo. There are a few places around town where you can sit and enjoy a show, and Helium is a newer club in Buffalo that I definitely love. I’ve had the chance to see a few acts come through town, and I have to say, they really know how to choose some good comedians. Tonight they welcome Joey Diaz to the stage. I’ve checked out a few videos of this guy, and he’s pretty funny -- but don’t just take my word for it! Go check him out yourself!

Then, after this weekend, the club has a ton of fantastic events coming up. On Wednesday, January 15, they have an Open Mic night with a whole variety of comedians. The event is free to everyone. Next weekend, they welcome Steve-O! Check out the full lineup on their website.

Another great place around WNY to laughter so hard you cry is at Buffalo ComedySportz in Amherst. This one is another one of my favorite comedy shows. There are shows every Friday night, and the part that makes is so special is the entire show is based on improv comedy, meaning that there is no script, so each time you go see a show, it’s new. The idea of this event is that two teams of actors compete for the biggest laugh. Throw in a referee that calls the fouls and even gets suggestions from the audience, and you will have a wild and crazy night! Everything they do is from what you suggest, so the crazier the better! Have fun at this event!

Finally, head out this month and visit our neighbors to the north as they celebrate the Niagara Ice Wine Festival. The festival is located on Church Street in St. Catharines in Ontario and runs from now until January 26. This one is a very unique event as they transform the street into a wintry wonderland to celebrate the most cherished product –- ice wine! There are so many events happening during this month for the Ice Wine Festival: You’ll get the chance to participate in events from a gala evening to ice bars to ice wine dinners. The best part of the whole event (or at least I think so!) is the roasting of chestnuts and ice wine grape picking you participate in along the wine route. You might never get a chance to experience an event like this, so why not take time out of your busy life and slow down and enjoy the ice wine!
