Luke Bryan's new single, “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day” is an ode to simple Southern living. Its lyric video features a few photos of Bryan hunting and fishing, so before his set at RodeoHouston in early March, The Boot sat down with the country superstar to ask him about his most memorable hunting and fishing story.

"I caught a shoal bass, which is a kind of unique species of bass. I almost broke the world record on the Flint River, right by the [Route] 32 bridge," Bryan reveals. "That was probably one of my biggest moments as a fisherman -- you know, catching him."

We'll have to trust Bryan's word on this story, though. Out of kindness for the fish, he didn't take it away from its home to be weighed.

"The world record was 8.2 [pounds], and I didn't want to kill the fish, so I didn't want to go pulling him out of the water, putting him in a cooler and weighing him," the singer explains. "So I never checked if he broke the world record, but we know he was in the mid- to high 7-pound range.

"It was a pretty awesome experience the way that it went down," Bryan adds.

Official record or not, the artist still has a cool story to share.

On Sunday (April 3), Bryan will be co-hosting the 2016 ACM Awards with Dierks Bentley. He's also got a shot at winning Entertainer of the Year; he's competing against Miranda LambertGarth Brooks, Eric Church and Jason Aldean for that trophy.

“… Anytime you get the Entertainer nomination, it is a huge deal, and you know you are always going to be in there with the best of the best, and certainly all of the other nominees are that,” Bryan reflects. “It is always an exciting moment of the night; the big Entertainer portion of the show is pretty crazy stuff.”

The 2016 ACM Awards will begin at 8PM ET. They will air live on CBS from Las Vegas, Nev.
