Memorial Day is this country’s annual salute to the men and woman of the armed forces who gave their lives in service of their country. There are dozens of services and ceremonies planned locally. But we were talking earlier this week about Memorial Day parades in this area and I was able to find a list of some of the more notable ones.

Most of the local parades are on Monday, Memorial Day, but the schedule begins on Saturday in Niagara Falls with a parade on Pine Avenue starting at the City Market and continuing to Veterans Park in Hyde Park. It starts at 11:00 AM.

Clay mentioned the annual parade in Marilla. It’s on Sunday starting at 11:00 AM on Two Rod Road. It begins at Tomarsue Drive and ends at the Veteran’s Memorial on Bullis Road. Free hot dogs and beverages after the ceremony.

Also on Sunday is the Twin Cities parade. It begins at 2:00 PM at Veteran’s Park in the City of Tonawanda and marches up Niagara Street and ends at the All Heroes Monument behind city hall.

Then you have your choice of parades on Monday.

A parade in Collins Center starts at 9:00 AM along Main Street from Collins Center Zoar Road to the cemetery.

Lancaster’s Memorial Day activities begin at 9:00 AM at Veteran’s Park on Lake Avenue with the parade route covering Lake Avenue, School, Pleasant, Central and ending at town hall.

There's a parade in East Aurora that starts at 10:30 at Hamlin Park, north on South Grove Street then west on Prospect Avenue to Oakwood Cemetery.

The West Seneca Memorial Day parade begins at Southgate Plaza at 10:30 AM and travels down Union Road to Legion Drive.

Clarence’s parade in on Main Street from Clarence High School to Clarence Town Park starting at 11:00 AM.

Lewiston’s parade is on Center Street starting at 11:00 AM.

One of the largest is the Kenmore – Tonawanda parade. It begins at 11:00 AM at the Brounshidle Post on Delaware Avenue and heads south on Delaware into Kenmore, turns right onto Lincoln Boulevard and ends at Elmwood Avenue. If you like marching bands, dance groups, fire trucks and soldiers – this is one great parade.

The Amherst Williamsville parade starts at 2:00 PM at Williamsville South High School and heads west on Main Street thru the village to Los Robles.
