I have battled my weight since I was ten years old.  Maintaining a healthy weight is a fight that many of us have to go through.  It's a shame that we all can't have the same success that 26 year old Edwin Velaz had when he decided to change his life.  He lost about 100 lbs. in about 4 months.

Most of us have done it.  We look at a picture of ourselves and we can't believe that we've let ourselves get to that point.  We're not happy with our appearance.  But how many of us actually do something about it?

That's what happened to Edwin Velez after he saw a picture of himself at nearly 300 lbs. on a cruise with friends.  At only 5'6" tall, he decided that it was just way too much and vowed to do make a change.

"It was almost as what we call cold turkey," Velez told " Good Morning America." "I woke up one morning and I was like, 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to do this now."

So how did he do it?  Was it a drastic surgery or a crash diet?  Was it liposuction or some kind of pill? It was none of those things.  He did it the old fashioned way.

He exercised.

He started by walking around a track.  He would go to the track because he was uncomfortable going to a gym right away.  Slowly the walking became jogging.  Then he joined a gym and hit the weights and did some ab work.  Before he knew it, he was down to around 155 pounds.

Velez also credits his switch to drinking ONLY water as a factor as well.  He watches what he eats and nearly a year later he has maintained his healthy lifestyle.

If you would like to find out more about how he lost his weight and has kept it up, he has started up a blog that you can read.  He even has examples of some of the meals that he eats on a daily basis.
