I hate to travel.  Let me take that back.  I love to travel but I hate to fly.  There are a lot of people like me.  They like going places but just don't enjoy getting there in an airplane.  Take Graham Hughes for instance.  He traveled to all 201 sovereign states in the world without flying.

He used just about every other form of transportation from buses, boats, taxis, trains, and his own two feet – but never an airplane.  That's my idea for a good trip!

He said the reason that he did it was pretty much just to see if it could be done.  “I think I also wanted to show that the world is not some big, scary place, but in fact is full of people who want to help you even if you are a stranger.”

The trip began on New Year's Day 2009 and he's been on the move ever since.  He had his share of run-ins with the law and was put in jail a couple times along the way.  But all in all he says it was a very positive experience.

“If you take everything that you know of the world from the news, it’s all the bad stuff and you get very paranoid that everyone is out to get you,” he says.
“But the most amazing thing to me is that everyone I met looked after me and I didn’t even know them.”
