Miranda Lambert: St. Jude ‘Feeds Your Soul’
For Miranda Lambert, the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a place of hope. She's certainly not alone in that belief. The millions of people who've been touched by the world famous medical research facility will agree, as will dozens of other country stars. For 25 years, country artists have led the fundraising charge for this world-class facility.
“It’s such a great experience,” Lambert tells Taste of Country, remembering her first visit to St. Jude. She was a new artist, but has looked for more ways to help since.
“It sounds weird to say that, but it’s such an uplifting place," she adds. "It feeds your soul."
During her second visit to St. Jude in 2008, Lambert colored with patients and proudly displayed the finished masterpieces. Later, she met with a patient in isolation, first putting on a sterilized mask, gown and gloves so she could enter safely. "It was fun,” she said at the time. “He put on a mask, too, when we had our picture taken together.”
Today (March 6) and Friday, Taste of Country is pressing pause on coverage of all but the most pressing news stories in an effort to raise money for St. Jude. For 25 years, country radio, artists and record labels have helped raise more than $500 million, ensuring that no one ever pays a dime for treatment at St. Jude.
