Another major motion picture is being filmed in Western New York and for a couple of weeks it means drivers using parts of Route 33 in Buffalo will have to find another route.  Some car chase scenes will be filmed on the section of the 33 between Route 198 and downtown and that means that entire section will be closed to traffic mainly at night.

Paramount Films and Nickelodeon Films say the action scenes in their production of  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 being filmed in Buffalo may mean occasional explosions and helicopters flying overhead to film it.  Residents in the area have been sent letters informing them of the plans.

Beginning Monday, May 4th thru Saturday, May 9th, Route 33 will be closed in both directions from 7 pm to 6 am between Route 198 and downtown.  Again, detours will be posted.  Probably the most direct route is to use Genesee Street.

Production will take a break on Sunday, May 10th, then filming resumes on Monday, May 11th thru Saturday, May 16th with the same schedule and closures as the week before.

The schedule of closures from 7 pm to 6 am on filming days is designed to cause the least disruption to rush hour traffic.

There's no indication that the stars of the movie will actually be in Buffalo during the chase scenes.  The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made more than $485-million at the box office worldwide.  The movie is expected to be released in June of next year.
