Today, New York State Troopers in marked AND unmarked cars will beginning pulling people over for an initiative in order to keep you and other people on the roads safe.

They are going to be pulling over a bunch more than usual for speeding on the roads as Governor Cuomo has announced that it is "Speed Week." Governor Cuomo stated the logic behind the crackdown on his website:

“Speeding and reckless driving is unsafe and the cause of far too many avoidable tragedies...I urge all New Yorkers to drive responsibly, stay within the speed limit and join us in helping to keep our roads safe for motorists, passengers and pedestrians alike.”

During the first "Speed Week" campaign in June, New York State Police officers wrote 21,864 speeding tickets. We can probably expect at least that many to be written this time around, and possibly more.

This campaign will begin today (August 2nd) and run through next Tuesday (August 8th), so pass it along to your friends and family, as always stay safe on the roads.
