Wow. He says he didn't do it intentionally.  He says he's apologized, but what do you think?  Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman is trying to explain his way out of a vicious hit during a game against the Nashville Predators.  The target of his hit was one of the on-ice officials.

The speculation is that Wideman was angry after taking a hit to the boards by one of the Nashville players and no penalty was called.  And as he made his way back to the bench linesman Don Henderson was the first guy in stripes he saw and crosschecked him to the ice.

No penalty was called on the play because the other officials couldn't determine exactly what happened, but it certainly looks intentional to me.  And the players on the Nashville bench looked like they thought so too.  In the meantime the NHL has suspended Wideman indefinitely pending a hearing.  NHL rules mandate a minimum 20 game suspension if it's determined that Wideman deliberately tried to injure the official.
