Great basketball game between Canisius and Niagara Sunday afternoon at the Koessler Center.  The Eagles winning it by one point after a shot by the Griffs was waved off because it came after time expired.

A lot different story when Northern Illinois played at Eastern Michigan on Saturday.  The Northern Illinois Huskies set a Division One record in the shot clock era by scoring only four points in the first half.

The previous record was five points by - Northern Illinois earlier this season.  And that was a record some people said could never be broken

With a lineup of mostly freshmen and sophomores, the Huskies set some other records too –

  • Fewest number of field goals in a half - one
  • Lowest field goal percentage in a half, just 3 percent, hitting just one of 31 shots.
  • Lowest field goal percentage for a game – 13.1 percent, good on only 8 of 61 shots.

They attempted 33 3-point shots and missed the first 32, finally making their last one.

Even though they scored only four points in the first half, they weren’t totally out of it.  They only trailed 18-4 at the break but went on to lose 42-25 avoiding the Division One record for fewest points in a game – 20.

By the way, the U-B Bulls will host North Illinois a week from Saturday.
