With the worst home ice record in the National Hockey League it's a rare night when the Buffalo Sabres manage to win a game at First Niagara Center.  Friday night the Sabres held on to beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 with the help of a penalty shot goal and one into an empty net.

Marcus Foligno led the way with a pair of goals and an assist for a three point night.  Foligno was awarded a penalty shot in the second period that gave the Sabres a 5-3 lead and that turned out to be the winning goal.  The Canadiens closed to within 5-4 heading into the third period and the Sabres held on until Evander Kane scored into an empty net, his second goal of the game, to clinch it.  David Legwand and Josh Gorges had the other Buffalo goals.

Chad Johnson got the call in net and stopped 26 of 30 shots as the Sabres win at home for the first time in almost a month.  It's also just their second home win against a division opponent this season.

The Sabres remain home to host Colorado in a matinee game on Sunday at 12:30 pm.
