The weather had to be perfect in the woods this past Saturday and Sunday for the annual New York State Youth Turkey Hunt. According to multiple reports, there was plenty of success for the kids that were able to get out early and call in some gobblers.

According to a report from NewYorkUpstate.com:

Junior hunters, ages 12-15, are mentored during the weekend by adults with hunting licenses who are not allowed to carry a firearm, bow or crossbow.

It is a great way for youngsters who are interested in the outdoors to get a head start on the adult hunters.

The NYSDEC website says:

All youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult, as required by law for a junior hunter.

  • Youth 12 or 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or person over 21 years of age, with written permission from their parent or legal guardian.
  • Youth 14 or 15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or person over 18 years of age, with written permission from their parent or legal guardian.
