America's oldest living citizen has passed away. Mamie Rearden of Edgefield, Georgia died at the age of 114.  She was born September 7, 1898.

Mamie was married for 59 years until her husband died in 1979.  She raised 11 children, 10 of them still living.

It was only two weeks ago that Mamie acquired the title of oldest American when 115-year old Dina Manfredini of Iowa passed away.  That leaves Elsie Thompson of Clearwater, Florida as the oldest living American.

The oldest person in the world is 115-year-old Jiroemon Kimura of Japan.  Most of the world's oldest people are women.  What makes Jiroemon unique is that he's a man.
