Our Canadian Neighbors Celebrate Victoria Day Weekend!
The Memorial Day Holiday isn’t until next weekend but this weekend brings a three day weekend for our neighbors to the North. Its Canada’s Victoria Day weekendand the weather couldn’t be better. Sunny and in the eighties! While lots of folks will be working in the yard and grilling out I’m sure we will also see an increased number of Canadian shoppers at our area malls which make for longer lines at the border crossings.
So what is Victoria Day all about? Well it’s the celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday; Canada is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which the Queen is head. Some Canadians may refer to the holiday as May 24th weekend, the Queen’s actual Birthday is on May 24thor even as the May Long Weekend, or the May two-four (referring to the Canadian two-four case of beer). Whatever the weekend is called, it’s the un-official kick off to summer and the weekend before our U.S. holiday. Bring on summer!
