Our Hometown Hero this week is Matthew LaPlante from Tonawanda. He is a Sergeant in the Army and is currently deployed in Iraq. One of the coolest things about him is that he joined with his brother Andrew and has been serving with him.

Here is the submission from his brother:

My brother and I joined the army approx. 6 years ago. We deployed together in 2010-2011. It was an awesome experience being able to have a family member right next to me. My brother has gone above and beyond the call. Just being home only over a year he volunteered to deploy again. He is very deserving to be recognized for his efforts to help our fellow brothers. He works in a trauma ER as a medic in a forward surgical team.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them right here on WYRK.com, but we'll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
