Walking To Find A Cure For Lou Gehrig’s Disease

His name is Matthew Mondoux.  He’s a Grand Island native and after serving in Afghanistan he returned home to find out a good friend was diagnosed with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Beginning this Sunday, July 10th, Mondoux will be heading to New York City and he’s walking it - 350 miles from Grand Island Veterans Park to Yankee Stadium, a trip he expects to take 12 days to complete.  And during the trip he’ll be wearing a custom-made Lou Gehrig uniform and the Yankees hat he took with him to both Iraq and Afghanistan.

67 Years Since “D Day”

I don't even know where to start writing to say enough to convey my respect for the men and woman that defend our country. As the brother of a former Marine, I understand the feelings that a family has when a loved one leaves home to serve in the Armed Forces. Civil War Greybeards – Dale’s Daily Data

Some laughed when they showed up.  Some thought it was a joke.  And during the Civil War many regular Union troops thought they’d be a hinderance more than a help.
They were the soldiers of the 37th Infantry of the United States Army.    They were formed during the Civil War, mainly as a recruiting tool.  The thinking was if these men could perform in combat and general army duties, others would join.  The 37th did better than that.

Santa – All I Want Is A Real Hockey Team

Another sellout crowd trudged out of HSBC Arena Thursday night, disappointed again by the cast of characters we know as the Buffalo Sabres.  For the second time in less than a week against the Florida Panthers they failed to show up in the first period and it cost them another game at home 4-3.  A much better effort in 2nd period tied the game at 3-all, but these guys just can't buy a goal when they absolutely need it.  They generated a lot of shots in the third period, but way too many that were high and wide.
