It's been more than a year since former Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson passed away, but his impact on Western New York continues. His widow, Mary Wilson, on Thursday announced a $4.2 million gift to Roswell Park Cancer Institute from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation.
The gift will be dedicated to patient care and quality of life programs such as:
- The Patient-Sitter Program helping to relieve family members
- The Transportation Assistance Program providing a means for patients to receive care
- The Wigs and Hats Program for patients who've lost their hair after chemotherapy
- Pastoral Care Services for comfort and spiritual healing of patients and their families
- The Pet Therapy Program
- The Artist In Residence Program allowing patients a diversion from their treatment
Wilson made millions of dollars in donations to Roswell Park during his lifetime including a large donation dedicated to a new chemotherapy unit at Roswell's $42 million Clinical Sciences Center, set to open in 2016.
