The new video for Randy Houser's 'Like a Cowboy' will find the singer as far from his natural habitat as one could imagine, or so it'd seem. Houser plays a drover in the new clip. An all-star cast surrounds him, but it's the Mississippi-born singer's handling of a horse and a herd that will leave fans amazed. Preview the video with this photo gallery, exclusively on Taste of Country.

'Like a Cowboy' is the fourth single from 'How Country Feels,' but the video is the one he's most proud of. William Shockley produced and co-stars alongside Houser. Timothy Murphy ('NCIS:LA') also stars. Earlier this month, Houser said he connected with Shockley and director Dustin Rikert when visiting the set of 'Ambush at Dark Canyon,' Kix Brooks' movie. Brooks had invited him to the Old Tucson set after Houser wrote a song for the film.

“We just became buddies. It was just like these people were my kind of people,” he told a group of reporters gathered to celebrate the success of his chart-topping hit 'Goodnight Kiss.' “They always said, ‘If you ever wanna do something like this, let’s do it.’ So we took a big swing for the fences and went and made -- I don’t even call it a video, I call it a mini-movie.”

Houser rode in the rodeo during high school, so getting back on a horse was an opportunity he was quick to seize. For five days, the crew -- plus 60 head of cattle and a bunch of horses -- set out to create the video, if you want to call it that.

“They were like, ‘Can you ride a horse?’” the singer says with a laugh. “They were shocked because I actually could.”

Photos show Houser and the rest of the cast around the set of 'Like a Cowboy.' Captions explain each picture. The full video will be released on CMT on Saturday (June 28).

Babacomari Ranch, where this was shot just south of Tucson and just west of Tombstone, is rich in film history. This is the same open range that was used in filming ‘Tombstone’ and the John Wayne film ‘Rio Bravo.’

This shot captures the Drover leaving home again. Director Dustin Rikert notes: "We came up with the concept of a drover. These cattle drivers lived a hard life and would have to leave town for long periods of time."

William Shockley was both the producer and actor in ‘Like a Cowboy.’ Shockley has a giant resume of major movies and TV shows including ‘Welcome to Paradise,’ ‘Showgirls,’ ‘The Joyriders’ and his longtime role in ‘Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.’

The casting director combed through over 1,000 submissions and had 30 in-person auditions before casting Caitlin Leahy. Having a real actress to work with as opposed to an extra or model really helped put Randy at ease. And it helped the production value of the entire video.

Timothy Murphy (right) was a late addition to the cast, and he was a huge addition. You might recognize him from major roles in TV hits like ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘NCIS: LA,’ while major film roles include Disney's ‘Lone Ranger’ (with Johnny Depp) and ‘National Treasure’ (with Nicolas Cage).

Director Dustin Rikert: "When we got to set, we were wondering if Randy could really ride. He took off on that horse at a gallop, rounded up cattle and brought them in. I knew right then that he could flat-out ride!"

Randy Houser: "To me riding is second nature. I grew up on a horse and rodeo'd as a kid."

Director Dustin Rikert: "We wanted to pair the old western look with a performance that was clean and modern."

Authentic western cowboy wardrobe was an important aspect of the video, which was largely shot in the 1800's set based in Tucson, Arizona.

To get this shot, Randy was drenched in water for an hour on a cold night.

The bodies on the horses (victims of wranglers) were actually real people laying on horses for every take of that opening scene.

This was the final shot of the entire week-long production: Driving 50 head of cattle through the streets of Old Tucson.

That many live cattle running through a town can be unpredictable — they broke through a barricade on the first take. It was a great way to wrap the filming.
