Marshville, NC - The Home of Country Living and Randy Travis. That was what the old "welcome" sign said when you drove into the hometown of country legend Randy Travis. The sign was taken down a few years ago and rumors of a divided town started to circulate. Half the town wanted to "claim him" and half the town thought he had "forgotten where he came from" and "never looked back." The rumors were fueled even more when a new sign went up on the edge of town without his name.

This past weekend the rumors were finally put to rest and a "side" was chosen when the town's mayor held a ceremony to unveil a new sign the declared to the world that Marshville was THE home of Randy Travis. Marshville resident Amy Nance said "He's become so humble which was probably God's plan that it's heartwarming to see him recognized for his gift and not judged for past."  Residents were on hand for the ceremony as was Randy Travis flanked by his brother Ricky Traywick and wife Mary Travis.

In his dedication speech the Mayor of Marshville, Franklin Deese, joked that when the old sign was taken down because it was in disarray he never knew how so many people got his cell phone to ask about the absence on the new sign.

Randy Travis also made time to take pictures with residents and he looked all smiles. Congratulations to Randy Travis and his hometown of Marshville, NC.
