It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This Week’s Hometown Hero is orignally from North Tonawanda, NY.  From our United States Air Force, it’s Retired Technical Sergeant Michael McClure!

(Ret) Technical Sergeant Michael D. McClure of North Tonawanda was the Wing Historian for the 914th Airlift Wing, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, New York. He was responsible for performing and managing historical activities, programs, and functions. He also provided historical research and reference services, interviewed personnel, and prepared analytical historical publications. He assembled and maintained historical document repositories for reference and research and was responsible for producing an annual history of the Wing. As of July 31, 2015 He retired from military service but is currently employed as a Department of Defense Civilian Lead Firefighter.

In June 1994, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and started basic military training on 7 December 1994, eventually becoming an F-16 Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice. He distinguished himself as a fast learner in his career field and earned an F-16 incentive ride when he deployed to Saudi Arabia. He served on many deployments to Nellis Air Force Base, NV for RED FLAG Exercises and in 1997 deployed to Incirlik Air Base Turkey in support of Operation Northern Watch. In 1999, TSgt McClure re-trained into the Fire Protection career field, acquiring many certifications. He has over twenty years of exemplary service with the United States Air Force. He assumed his present duties in July 2009
