There's word that former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has been offered the Buffalo Bills head coaching job and that he will accept.  Ryan first interviewed for the job Thursday at the home of team owner Terry and Kim Pegula.  He was asked back Saturday night for a second interview where he reportedly accepted.

Nothing is official, but the New York Daily News says Ryan would get a 5-year contract worth $27.5 millon.

Ryan will reportedly bring with him a number of the assistant coaches that worked with him on the Jets including his defensive coordinator, but the Bills want defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to stay.  So how that arrangement will work out remains to be seen.

Ryan will also bring in a new offensive coordinator, reportedly Greg Norman who also interviewed for the Bills head coaching job.  Norman was a finalist for the Penn State head coaching job.

Ryan will replace Doug Marrone who shockingly walked out on his team on December 31st with a year left on his contract.  So is this an upgrade?  Absolutely.  Ryan led the New York Jets to the AFC Championship game twice.  After interviewing at least a dozen candidates the Bills get a guy they think is the right fit.  That's a better scenario  than waiting for other teams to make their choices and being forced to settle for the leftovers.
