It's now official. The Darcy Regier era is over at First Niagara Center.

The fans have been calling for his firing for months now, and today they got their wish. At a press conference this morning (November 13), Sabres owner Terry Pegula announced the release of Regier and head coach Ron Rolston. Along with that, their replacements would be two very popular Sabres alumni.

The first announcement was the creation of a new position titled "President of Hockey Operations". That seat will be filled by Sabres great Pat LaFontaine. Also, the vacant head coaching position will be filled by former Sabres head coach Ted Nolan.

The changes take place immediately, and Pat LaFontaine is on the search for the next GM of the Buffalo Sabres.
