For the third time in a month, the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals couldn't settle their game in regulation time. After the Sabres won the two previous games 2-1 in shootouts, the Capitals finally beat the Sabres when they scored in overtime to win 5-4.

Alex Ovechkin led the way by setting up the game winner to go along with a pair of goals to add to his league-leading total.

Cody Hodgson scored twice for Buffalo. Christian Ehrhoff and Phillip Varone, with his first NHL goal, had the other Buffalo goals, while Jonas Enroth took the loss, his 15th loss of the season against just a single win.

The Sabres head west for a couple of games, Thursday in Phoenix and Saturday in Colorado.
