We were told it would be a painful season, but we had no idea it would be this miserable.  And with mounting injuries necessitating back-ups to the back-ups being inserted into the lineup all you can ask is that the Buffalo Sabres give everything they have.  And I'll give credit when it's due.  They gave all they had against a clearly superior team.

The Sabres held their own against the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night in Buffalo.  They took an early lead and gave the Wings a battle, but Detroit came back to win it 4-2.

Zemgus Girgensons scored both Buffalo goals.  The second one was of the "highlight reel" variety.  It gave the Sabres a chance to tie the game until the Wings scored into an empty net to clinch it.  Girgensons is a future superstar in the NHL.  If the Sabres had four or five more like him they'd be in good shape.

Matt Hackett in goal stopped 33 shots.  The Sabres play in New York against the Rangers Thursday night.
