Another game, another loss for the Buffalo Sabres.  The Sabres gave up a pair of first period goals and that's all the Toronto Maple Leafs needed for a 2-nothing win in Toronto.  It's the Sabres' ninth loss in the last  11 games.

And if that's not bad enough, the Sabres played most of the game without their top scorer.  Thomas Vanek played only four minutes of the first period before going out with an upper body injury – it may have been food poisoning or the flu.  He and defenseman Robyn Regehr both ate at the same Toronto restaurant the night before and Regehr played sparingly in the third period because he was sick too.

The Sabres remain 11th in the Eastern Conference, five points behind Pittsburgh for the final playoff spot.

The Sabres and Leafs meet again Friday night in Buffalo.
