It certainly wasn't for a lack of shots.  After equaling a franchise record for fewest shots on goal in their game against the Islanders two nights before, the Buffalo Sabres took that many in the first five minutes of the second period Tuesday night against Ottawa.  The Sabres ended up with 21 shots in that period alone, finished with 36 for the game, but still ended up losing 2-1.

Coach Ted Nolan called the second period the best they've played all season.  They dominated the Senators for most of that period, but still couldn't score.  They had one goal disallowed when the referee determined Marcus Foligno interfered with the goaltender.  And another shot hit the post and laid on the goal line but never crossed it.

It wasn't until the third period when the Sabres finally scored a power play goal by Tyler Myers, but even with a power play chance late in the game and pulling the goaltender couldn't help score the tying goal.

So the Sabres have lost three of the four games they've played so far in their five-game homestand  The Sabres are off until Sunday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers.
